| Original historical observation | Clipping Magic pioneered the dual-pane Red/Green + Yellow Hair Ring workspace, automatically tracing a yellow transition ring around the models curly hair. The free 500×500 Small Preview PNG achieves 97.74% IoU with a slight warm halo on outer flyaway strands. | LightX cleanly segments the portrait silhouette (99.89% foreground recall) and offers instant backdrop color previews on the result page (02_workspace.png), though the 480×480 guest resolution cap pixelates fine flyaway curls. |
| Suitable uses · historical assessment | E-commerce retouchers who want dedicated Red (remove) / Green (keep) / Yellow (hair) brushes for manual edge perfection | Users needing quick, unwatermarked small transparent thumbnails or icons (480×480) without signing up |

| Pricing transparency | 26.5 / 35 Anonymous guests can upload a full 2048×2048 image into the dual-pane Smart Editor (left red/green/yellow hair brush canvas, right live preview). Clicking Download opens the Subscription Plans page with a prominent green banner: "You can download a size-limited preview result free for non-commercial use — Download Small Preview" (02_workspace.png, 03_download.png). | 28 / 35 Supports direct unauthenticated image upload on the landing page (01_landing.png) and clearly displays two download buttons side by side: "Download HD (Resolution upto 1920 x 1920 px)" and "Download Standard (Resolution upto 480 x 480 px)" (02_workspace.png). Clicking Download Standard immediately exports a 480×480 unwatermarked RGBA PNG without login, while clicking Download HD opens a "Log In to Continue" modal (03_download.png). |
| Interaction restraint | 24.5 / 30 No signup or credit card is required to test the full interactive editor (including the dedicated yellow Hair Tool, scalpel, edge feathering, and cast shadow controls) and export a 500×500 transparent PNG via Download Small Preview. | 25 / 30 Explicitly labels exact pixel limits (480×480 vs 1920×1920) directly beneath the two download buttons with zero hidden watermarks. |
| Background & reputation | 18.5 / 20 Founded by Stanford AI researcher Ericoden (Cedar Lake Ventures, Inc.) in 2013 and acquired by Canva in 2021; one of the industrys most established interactive matting tools. | 18 / 20 Developed by AndOr Communications Pvt. Ltd. (New Delhi, India), creator of the globally popular LightX mobile photo editor with tens of millions of downloads. |
| Engineering & privacy | 12 / 15 Supports 2048×2048 uploads with hybrid Cloud Auto-Clip AI + client WebGL canvas refinement; unsaved guest uploads are automatically purged. | 11 / 15 Performs HTTPS cloud segmentation and triggers direct local download for Standard resolution without intrusive browser permissions. |
| Task quality | 47 / 65 Auto-Clip mode with automatic yellow Hair Ring detection achieved 97.74% foreground IoU, with SAD = 86.88k and edge mad_band = 0.2145 due to 500×500 free preview downscaling and mild warm halo in outer flyaway curls (47.0/65). | 34.6 / 65 Achieves a very high 99.89% foreground recall, but because the free guest export is capped at 480×480 (only 23.4% of the 2048px master width), fine outer hair curls suffer heavy downsampling loss when evaluated against the 2048×2048 Ground-Truth alpha (mad_band = 0.2280, SAD = 50.793k, bg_leak = 1.303%) (34.6/65). |
| Deliverable specifications | 15 / 20 Free Small Preview exports a 500×500 8-bit RGBA transparent PNG without diagonal watermarks (5.96% pixel area retained, non-commercial use); full 2048×2048 resolution requires 1 subscription credit (15.0/20). | 10 / 20 Delivers a clean, unwatermarked RGBA PNG for free without login, but caps guest resolution at 480×480 (retaining 5.5% of original pixels) (10.0/20). |
| Processing speed | 11 / 15 Cloud Auto-Clip initialization and automatic hair ring segmentation completed in ~8.4s (11.0/15). | 12 / 15 Cloud background removal completed in ~5.85s for the 2048×2048 master (12.0/15). |
